Description:

Hailing from the famed French cristallerie Lalique, this chic circular cactus table embodies the elegance and artistry of the firm’s best creations. Designed in 1951 by Marc Lalique, son of René Lalique, this table features one of the French firm’s most beloved motifs: flora. A clear-crystal base takes the form of a succulent agave cactus with a sleek clear glass top. Each of the agave crystal “leaves,” or supports, takes eight to ten weeks to craft by hand. This stunning table is exemplary of Lalique’s artistic lead-glass crystal works, which garnered the firm immense fame in the mid-20th century. Beautifully conceived, the table remains true to the artistic ideals Lalique founded during his life. René Lalique was one of the most popular sculptors of the Art Deco period, and glass aficionados and amateur collectors alike continue to marvel at the grace, magnificence and accuracy of his creations the world over. A significant contributor to the Art Deco movement, his penchant for innovation and eye for style made Lalique one of the premier craftsmen at the Paris Exhibition of 1925. The monumental piece is an extraordinary example of the firm’s excellence in glassmaking, bringing together both a gracefulness and sleek modernity. One of the three largest pieces ever made by this company, the striking table perfectly represents the legacy of René Lalique's signature design aesthetic and high-quality craftsmanship. A similar table is pictured in Lalique by Marie-Claude Lalique, page 246. Late 20th century 59 3/4" diameter x 28" high
